What Is A Simulated Game Day?

Enjoy a full day shooting an exciting range of challenging and varied simulated targets on some of the most renowned game shooting drives in the UK.
A Simulated Game Day provides the fun of a game day out of season. These days are rapidly growing in popularity as they offer all the fun and excitement of a game day with less expense and can offer great experience for the more inexperienced shots. They typically take place between April and September, which enables shooters to enjoy fantastic sport during the summer and keep their eye in for the upcoming shooting season.

Typical Itinerary

Our goal is to replicate the natural flight patterns of pheasants, partridges and decoying pigeons/vermin – all in the spirit of thrilling simulated game shooting.

A typical day of simulated game shooting begins with a breakfast gathering. Here, you’ll savour bacon rolls (perhaps even two!) paired with cups of tea and coffee.

After breakfast, your shoot host will discuss the day ahead, ensuring that all safety measures are well understood. If you’re new to simulated shooting, fret not; our friendly staff will be readily available to provide guidance and support.

The day unfolds with two morning drives, each punctuated by drinks and nibbles. Following this, we return to the base for lunch before venturing back into the field for two more drives. The day culminates with a final round of drinks and homemade cake.

We orchestrate each drive twice, allowing one guest to take the shot while the other serves as the loader, and then you switch roles. This ensures that everyone remains actively engaged throughout the day.

On average, each gun can anticipate firing approximately 350 to 500 cartridges in a day.*

*Please note: Cartridges are not included in the daily package rate. Cartridges are available on the day however, large quantities need to be pre-ordered on booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

The main differences between a traditional game day and a simulated game day lie in the targets, shooting etiquette, and target volume. On a game day, participants shoot game birds such as pheasants, partridge, and ducks. In contrast, simulated game days involve shooting clay pigeons as targets. Unlike traditional game days where shooting another’s birds is discouraged, on a simulated game day, it is encouraged to shoot other guns’ targets. Moreover, while game days have a set number of birds, there is no specific limit to the number of clay pigeons presented on a simulated day.

Simulated game shooting days follow a similar format to traditional game days, with guns shooting a series of drives. However, instead of shooting game birds, the targets are clay pigeons. A typical simulated game day with G and D Sporting involves presenting clays in four drives, with guns standing at two pegs per drive. There will be 16 guns on a simulated day, and the guns will pair up, with two guns per stand on a drive, alternating between loading and shooting. After each drive, there will be a short break for hospitality, including drinks, elevenses, and lunch.

The main equipment needed for a simulated game shooting day includes a shotgun and cartridges. Additionally, wearing a cap/hat and safety glasses is essential for safety purposes. It is also highly recommended to use hearing protection, such as earplugs or ear defenders, with emtec ear plugs being a preferred choice recommended by G and D Sporting.

One of the advantages of a simulated game shooting day is its affordability compared to a traditional game day. The cost of a simulated game day includes a high volume of clays and full hospitality. Please contact us to discuss details.

For a simulated game shoot, it is recommended to use 21g or 24g 7.5s/8s cartridges. Using a lighter load cartridge reduces felt recoil, which is important since approximately 350 -500 cartridges are typically shot throughout the day. G and D Sporting can supply Gamebore cartridges on the day at an added cost.
